I believe we are hot wired to be deeply fearful of the “other”. A valuable trait in a primeval world where threat identification is of paramount importance to survival. This fear, that we see stoked unscrupulously, is driving the rage currently directed at immigrants

Most of us are comprised of all sort of base instincts, many of which we would be ashamed to hear actively verbalized. We need to understand that some of our fellow citizens are being manipulated by this call to their fears. They need to be encouraged to be strong rather than week and are deserving of our support rather than vilification

We need to articulate, at all times, that kindness, not fear, is where real strength lies. That we have moved on from the savannah and can build “a more perfect union” if we are strong enough to embrace reason rather than the bogeyman that lurks in all of us
